My job as rector of Ascension is to invite and encourage the people of Ascension to know Christ and make him known by an inward journey of faith and an outward journey of service to the world in his name.
I believe this is best done through inclusive and loving community, authentic worship, prayerful discernment, and cultivating a sense of joy and gratitude for the many gifts of God found in life, in each other, and in the world.
I’ve been part of the Ascension community since 2021, beginning as the Parish Administrator, and shifting to Operations Manager in our day school in 2022. My role at AEDs is a mixture of hands-on, day-to-day fun, and lots of behind-the-scenes magic, making sure that our administrative operations run smoothly! From onboarding new staff members to account management and much more, I can usually be found calculating something in my office, leading book club for our students, or planning for special school events! Aside from my work at Ascension, I have a history of working in various nonprofits in Hampton Roads pertaining to early childhood education and development, most notably the Norfolk Botanical Garden and the Simon Family Jewish Community Center. The things I learned as I came up in both of those organizations continue to serve me each day in my work at AEDS! I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Nonprofit Management, and prior to coming to Ascension, I founded a local nonprofit – Compassion Cards – where I served as Executive Director for ten years. Outside of my professional endeavors, you can most often find me with my nose in a book, cuddled up with my cat. I’m an avid reader, writer, and artist! My philosophy in life is to always be mindfully working toward an environment of acceptance, empathy, and compassion, and I’m grateful that I can spend time cultivating such a space for young people alongside my colleagues here at Ascension.

Hi everyone, my name is Jennifer Wilson, and I am the Director at Ascension Episcopal Day School. Ascension is known for their tight knit program dedicated to providing the community with high quality childcare, which is why after being the Lead Infant Teacher for 8 years here at the school, and Assistant Director for 1 year, I am happy to take on the role of Director. I am from this beautiful place known as Norfolk, VA. I am happily married to my wonderful husband, a mom of two amazing boys, ages 6 and 2 years old. I graduated from Norfolk State University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education. I have a tremendous love for children and have a strong desire to work with them; it is indeed my passion. I've been in the Early Childhood Education field for over 15 years. My experience in childcare started with modeling how to love, care, and nurture a child in my mothers in home daycare, to engaging in hands on experiences at Norfolk State University Child Development Lab, transitioning to AEDS as the Lead Infant teacher, returning as the Assistant Director, and now serving as Director. I look forward to supporting our educators who want and need to stay passionate about the work they do, assisting your families, and most importantly creating a safe, and nurturing place, where each child can grow and develop throughout the years at our school. Communication is a large part of building a strong and dependable relationship; with that said I am here for any questions and concerns you may have! I sincerely hope that I am able to meet and exceed your expectations as the new AEDS Director. Thank you!
